ABOUT

Welcome to my China travel blog, where I invite you to join me on an extraordinary journey spanning over 13 years. Within these pages, you will find a treasure trove of snapshots, captivating anecdotes, and insights from my travels in China.

In 2020, as the world grappled with the devastating impact of COVID, my meticulously crafted travel plans fell victim to the circumstances. Now, with the prospect of resuming my adventures postponed until the end of 2023 or early 2024, I have decided to embark on a different kind of exploration. I will revisit the remarkable destinations I have encountered in Mainland China and Taiwan since 2010, breathing new life into this blog and bringing it up to date.

As a passionate female solo traveler who immigrated to Canada 27 years ago, my love for meeting and exchanging ideas with people from around the globe knows no bounds. While I have traversed many countries, none have left such a profound impression on me as China. It has surprised me, challenged me, and fundamentally changed me in ways I could never have anticipated.

Revisiting the past is an intriguing endeavor. Each photograph shared on these pages invokes a myriad of emotions, evoking a deep sense of gratitude within me. While I eagerly anticipate my next voyage through China, I ponder whether it will ever be the same. In the wake of the pandemic, I initially worried about societal changes, but now I am equally concerned how the current political climate between the West and China may impact my interactions with the locals. Will strangers still extend warm welcomes? Will friends continue to invite me into their homes, as they have done for so long? This retrospective journey reinforces how precious each day has been and highlights the privilege I have experienced.

Above all, my sincerest wish is that by sharing my past and future impressions of this vast, diverse, and simply awe-inspiring country, I can contribute, even if only in a small way, to fostering a greater understanding between people on both sides of the cultural divide.

Last time I invited you join me on a trip to Qingdao, world-famous for its Tsingtao beer. Let us go back to 2017 once more and revisit Harbin, one of my favorite cities in China.

Next up will be Shanghai and Suzhou, my third destination in that year.
